Mrs. Henry Vinzant Dead

Mrs. Henry Vinzant, whose critical illness from a stroke of paralysis is mentioned on another page of the paper, died yesterday morning about 1 o'clock at her home 3 ½ miles southwest of this place. She leaves an aged mother and six children to mourn her loss. The deceased was a daughter of the late Wm. Argo and a sister of Mr. Lewis Argo of Mercer county, and was aged about 63 years. The funeral will be held today and the burial will be at the Yingling graveyard.

NOTE: she died 10/11/1908

                                           Henry Vinzant
Henry Vinzant who passed away at his home 4 miles southwest of Lineville.  Announcement of whose death was made in the Tribune last week, was born in Indiana, Dec. 18, 1838, and died Jan. 24, 1920, aged 81 years 1 month and 6 days.

The deceased came to Wayne County 1852, settling on a farm 3 miles North of Lineville and moving from there the next year 1853, located on the farm where he died,  Southwest of here in Mercer Co., Missouri.

He was united in marriage to Mary Naomi Argo in 1862, she preceded him to the life beyond,  Oct. 11, 1908.  To this union 14 children were born, six of whom still survive, as follows.

Frank, Clarence, and Grover Vinzant and Mrs. Bert Ellis of this place and vicinity and Mrs. James Smith, of Rock Island, Ill.  Besides the children he leaves to morn his loss 30 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, 1 sister and a host of other relatives and friends.  Two of his grandchildren, Lloyd and Bryan Vinzant have always made their home with their grandfather.

Funeral services were conducted at the home, Jan. 26th, by Rev. Guy Yingling, after which remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Yingling Cemetery.

The 69 years he resided in the community was wrought the most wonderful development the Country, United States, and the world in general, over experienced in any equal period of the history of the World.  From the Virgin forest lands have been reclaimed, cleaned and put in cultivation, log cabins supplanted by fine modern homes, the mower, binder, cultivators, plows, threshing machines and tractors, all have come into common use on the farm, since the deceased has lived here.  In addition of those are the railroads, telephones, rural mail delivery, and thousands of the other useful inventions and convenience for the comfort and pleasure of humanity.

It was his privilege to live in one place in this community for almost three-quarters of a century, to being young with the experiment of settlement, grow with the Country through the different stages of development and at last look out on the World at the setting of the sun and see a wonderful country.  With its purposes and possibilities and feel that his and other old timer's labor and work have not been wasted and that his life has had a part in its upbuilding and shall retain a lien upon the future.
